"Bad."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

There was no food or drink available in the A&E waiting area, none, so if you wanted food or even water you had to send a relative to the main area, which took half an hour and not everyone has a relative with them. The staff member I saw was dismissive of my busted lip, my bruises, I'm pretty sure I'm concussed or have been having seizures, but the minute they heard I had mental health history, they wrote me off as mad and sent me home. Useless service - a waste of £5.60 car park money and 5 hours of my life. The ambulance service was better (I saw them a few days previous), but the paramedics were nice, not the hospital staff. I bashed my head so hard I don't remember the doctor I saw that time at all, but I clearly should've been kept in, not sent home.

The whole experience was distressing and awful. The paramedics rock, the nurses are godawful.

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment about your experience at our Accident & Emergency Department.

We are disappointed to hear about your negative experience while in the department.

We are currently undergoing major build works to provide a new Urgent Care Centre right next to our ED and we are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Initially, a hot drinks vending machine was placed into the temporary waiting room but this resulted in us taking up seating space. Hospital volunteers are available to serve hot drinks or bottled water on request. Signage is displayed providing this information.

We are sorry that you feel your medical concerns were not taken seriously but it is difficult to comment further without more information.

If you would like this to be investigated further, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 073 0510 or e-mail pals@dgh.nhs.uk.
