"Everything went very smoothly"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I had an endoscopy carried out yesterday in this unit. Yvonne talked me through everything that would happen I opted for sedation and everything went very smoothly from my point of view. The staff from the outset treated me with respect and were willing to listen and answer any questions. I was extremely nervous and they made me feel more at ease and ready for the procedure. After care was also excellent. I would like to thank them all.

Two points to consider.

The brochure sent with the appointment sates that only a light breakfast should be eaten. Perhaps an example of a light breakfast could be given.

The use of the mouth guard. I would have liked to see one before beginning the procedure.

Dear tk65

Thank you for taking your time to comment on your recent visit to the Regional Endoscopy Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital. I am so delighted to learn about your positive experience. I am glad you felt that staff made you feel at ease and also felt you got excellent treatment from all staff from start to the end. I will pass on your comments to the team and am sure they will be pleased to hear about your pleasant experience.

I think you are quite right that an example of a light breakfast should be highlighted in the patient booklet, so that patients are confident that they are following the instructions well. We have recently revised our booklets, but I will pass on your request to the team for future updates.

I have also requested staff to show patients the mouth guard upon request. I am sorry that you were unable to see the mouth guard before the procedure. In future please do not hesitate to make a request of this nature, as it can also help to put you are ease.

Thanks again, wish you well

Kindest regards

Nothando Senda-Ndaba (Sister)
