"rude staff"

About: Withington Hospital

I visited the x-ray department recently at the request of my GP. When I first presented at the department which was easy enough to find, the receptionist advised me to take a seat after taking my name, which was fine. I was then called by name by a radiographer who proceeded to walk off in front of me, they then pointed to a room and said go in there and take your top half off. It appeared already at this point that my need for an x-0ray was an inconvenience to them. I got changed and waited. When the Radiographer returned I was asked to enter the room where the x ray would be taken, asked to stand up against the machine in what I can only describe as an impatient tone. I was then asked to raise my arms around the machine, but asked as though I was already expected to know to do this which was very annoying. Once my test was done I was told to take a seat in the room, the radiographer then proceeded to walk out of the room and left me sat for a while with the door wide open feeling very exposed in my gown. I was not told how long to wait or what to expect, just left sat there. The radiographer then returned and just said you can go ring your GP in a week for results, they pointed to the room where my clothes where, I then tried to ask a question but the person was walking away from me before I could even ask anything.

I work in patient services for a large Trust and this experience was not at all the standard I would expect. My dignity was completely disregarded and the complete lack of communication and information was just a shame. The experience left me feeling let down. An x-ray may be a small thing but my patient experience is not and Withington Radiology staff would do well to consider how their behaviour and complete lack of manners effects patients. No compassion or empathy.

I really hope that this feedback will help to ensure that other patients are not made to feel like a nuisance while attending for necessary tests!
