As a type 2 diabeti, Metformin is an essential drug in the managing of the condition. Due to an oversight I had run out of the tablets. My wife phoned the surgery to ask for an urgent prescription to be sent to the pharmacy for collection the same day or the following day. She was greeted by a receptionist who told her I had had my tablets and couldn't have anymore as I took two a day I should have some left from last month. My wife explained that she couldn't check the dosage herself as she was in hospital having some surgery, but assured the receptionist I had run out. Was told i couldn't have anymore and that was that. My wife hung up. After checking with me and establishing I took four a day she phoned back and was told no problem the prescription could be done. She collected later that day on her way home from hospital. The original call was handled very badly, the receptionist was rude and quite condescending. The receptionist needs to get their facts right before denying people essential medication. They are not a doctor
