This is a department which thinks it's acceptable to discharge a patient with an ongoing heart valve issue!!! Where is the duty of care?
Last year after having an echo I was told that there had been no significant change and that I would be due for another scan in 12 months. Because there had been no significant change I contacted the hospital to ask why it was necessary to spend valuable hospital time and money scheduling a consultant appointment to tell me in person that there was no significant change to my condition???
In spring of this year when I hadn't received an appointment for my annual scan, I was told that I had been discharged seemingly for cancelling my consultant appointment, despite having spoken with the department about why. I was told that I would be put back on the list and would receive an appointment for September...nothing has arrived in the post.
Again, I have contacted the Cardiology department to find out what is going on? Only to be told that there is nothing on my notes about an annual follow-up echo or the communication problem that we had earlier this year and that they will look into it...forgive me if I don't hold my breath for a prompt response.
