"Four and a half hour wait"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Due to a severe water infection I had to visit this centre on a Saturday evening. There were only 5/6 patients waiting to be seen by three nurses so no call for concern. How wrong was I Yes I was seen by a nurse within minutes but that turned out to be so they could prioritise my condition. The nurse said I needed to see a doctor so I sat back and waited and waited and waited. After 2 hours queried the delay, reason - very busy, after four hours still very busy. After four and a half hours saw a nurse!!!! So why was I told I had to see a doctor when in fact it turned out that I was seen by a nurse? They gave me antibiotics and I left within 5 minutes. What a shambles. It seems that you have to lie by exaggerating your symptoms or be a drunk or drug addict to get quick attention. All in all this place had no apparent management in place. If this were private I would go elsewhere. I could have been seen in a fraction of the time.
