After developing ulcerative colitis, the only comparably bad experience is having to use the Conquest Gastroenterology department. If you have the misfortune to have to use it, you too can experience such joys as:
- Almost never being able to see the consultant because the facility is totally over subscribed - but don't worry, on the rare occasion you do get to see them, they are 'keeping an eye on it'! See you next year!
- Travel to new and exciting locations like Eastbourne and Bexhill because they are either 'improving' the ward (nothing changed) or don't have space in any clinics
- Experience all your treatments solo because there is no room from family and friends on the infusion ward
- Have the benefit of a dedicated IBD nurse who operates in Eastbourne with no phone signal and can never be contacted, but that is okay because they will most likely be on holiday anyway!
- Have letters sent to your GP detailing the wrong medication, which can't be changed because the letter writing service is outsourced to India! (The typos give me a good laugh)
- Inexplicably only ever be contacted on your landline despite giving them your mobile number dozens of times, because they seem to believe we all live in the 1990s
- Never see any improvement in your condition because you are lost in their glacially slow administration and they've forgotten about you!
God help anyone else using this service.
"Pray you never have to use"
