"Dedication, patience and caring attitude"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son recently had hip replacement surgery at the City Hospital. He has received outstanding care from his surgeon, Mr Manktelow. Mr Manktelow has always taken time to explain the options carefully, speaking with respect and patience with my son at the same time as recognising our concerns as parents. He has taken a personal interest, not only in his treatment but in him as a person, fully recognising that his condition is not simply something to be managed in isolation, but is connected to his life in the round. His skill and expertise in orthopaedic surgery is clearly second-to-none. His humanity in dealing with us all has been exemplary and hugely appreciated. He has inspired confidence and been open throughout. This high standard of care has been reflected too in the aftercare my son received on the ward: Harvey 1. The staff were all friendly and responsive and went out of their way to accommodate our role as parents of an 'only just adult'. The standard of care has been very good, from nursing staff but also from HCSWs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, catering and cleaning staff. I feel very appreciative of the dedication, patience and caring attitude of all the staff.

Thank you for getting in touch and for speaking so highly of your son’s surgeon, Mr Manktelow. I’ve shared your feedback with Mr Manktelow and the team on Harvey 1 Ward.

You might be interested to know that nominations are still open for our annual staff awards, called NUHonours. Considering this experience I thought you might wish to nominate Mr Manktelow or staff from Harvey 1 Ward for a nomination (these would fall under the Surgery Division Award). If you would like to, you can find out more and make a nomination via our website: www.nuh.nhs.uk/nuhonours.

Thank you once again for taking time to get in touch.

With best wishes,

Julia Holmes.

Ward Manager, Harvey 1.
