"Scan appointment"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I have been booked in for growth scans regularly to check progress of my baby making sure he is on the right track for his growth, so far growth has been perfect no concerns at all.

The main thing that bothers me about when I go for a scan is whether or not the person who is doing the scan is going to be polite and kind rather than rude and trying to get you out of the room quickly. So far all the scans I have had the same sonographer who is the loveliest person they took time to show me and my partner our baby had a little chat made us feel comfortable, we even had a laugh aswell.

They were lovely, although last time I went for a scan at 36 + 5 weeks I had the rudest person ever I do not know what their name was, but they were very moody and unwelcoming they quickly let me glance at baby I mean obviously I know I was there for a growth scan that is fine I don't expect to be lying there all day so I can see my baby but it seem kind of rushed.

They also weren't very gentle I could hardly breathe properly they were digging into my belly so hard I couldn't catch my breath. I'm due for another at 40 weeks if I have not delivered my baby before then and I'm hoping I do not get the same person because it was awful, painful and felt very uncomfortable.

I hate to write such a bad review because so far every person I have met during my pregnancy has been the best but I would not want another woman to be felt like way I did in that scan room.

On a better note, my consultant appointment that followed after the scan made me feel much more reassured the consultant I saw was brilliant had a nice chat asked questions and got a proper answer was lovely so that made me a little more cheered up. Also had a nice chat with one of the midwives it's good to know there are some lovely midwives and consultants in the Oldham hospital maternity department I hope a good labour experience when it eventually happens.

ps. thank you so much for putting some comfier chairs in the waiting room!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about our antenatal clinic. I am pleased to hear that you found the consultant and midwives were happy to sit and 'chat' with you about your concerns. We always want our women to feel that they have been listened to. I am also glad that you like the chairs! I put them in clinic as a direct result of feedback on Care Opinion from a pregnant lady.

I am sorry to hear that you have found one of the sonographers to be unwelcoming. We would expect that our staff maintain their professionalism at all times. Here at the Royal Oldham we do not want our women worrying about who they will next see at their appointment so I have raised your concerns with the manager of the sonographers Karen Mackey. Both myself and Karen are more than happy to look into your concerns further, please get in touch with me on the email address provided at the end of this comment.
