"Self referral for anxiety."

About: Hounslow IAPT

(as the patient),

I needed help as I suffered with various symptoms to do with anxiety and stress. I was asked by my GP to self refer for CBT.

The time I sent off the referral until actually seeing someone was roughly 2 weeks which is so fast. I was treated with kindness and respect. It was a safe place for me to talk and feel at ease. Throughout the schedule of sessions which worked out to be 7 over a period of 4 months or so I was given great strategies and ways of understanding what was going on in my head and why, also how to deal with it all. I found the whole experience a learning curve, as I had to challenge how I was thinking, feeling and it is scary when you have not done this. Some weeks were difficult only because I had to overcome deep rooted fears by facing them but this was handled so well and I felt very safe and in capable hands.

I felt my care was tailored for me in a caring and professional way, and I am feeling 100% better and positive. Thank you so much.

Dear Aug,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we are very pleased to hear that your experience with the Hounslow IAPT has been so helpful.

You mentioned that you found the atmosphere in the sessions safe and supportive, which helped when dealing with the challenge of facing your fear; it is often the case that some of the longer standing issues require a bit of an extra effort to achieve progress, especially at the start! But overcoming these can be hugely rewarding as it brings a lot of positive change - it's fantastic to know that the techniques have been beneficial and that you're 100% better. We really hope that other people who consider getting help will be encouraged by your story and try CBT as well.

All the very best for the future.
