"My mum and the support she receives due to Alzheimers"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a carer),

Mum was diagnosed about 5 /6 years ago just after my dad died. She is still managing to live in her own home. This year we have seen her condition take a step up. It has also resulted in her having a few falls and not really knowing what has happened. We just have to try and put the pieces together. She has had excellent support from her GP, Community Nursing Teams and Psychiatrist.

She was referred to the Falls Clinic by the Community Nurse and it has been excellent. She has been thoroughly checked over and now referred to a 12 week exercise class to strengthen her bones and balance. It has been a real joined up service from referral till now. She had her first class and enjoyed it and wanting to go back next week. My mum is in her 80s

Dear MagsM

Many thanks for taking the time to post on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear that your Mum has had a number of falls. But I am glad that she has had excellent support for the GP, Community Nursing Teams and the Psychiatrist.

I hope your Mum continues to enjoy her exercise class.

Please pass on my best wishes to your Mum.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear MagsM

Thank you for posting on careopinion, it makes the day hospital staff know that the work we do makes a difference to you as well.

Your story is a good reminder of how joined-up services are so vital for people with dementia.

Thanks Nicola

The exercise class is really good for her. She refuses to go to anything else but does enjoy it when she gets there. Thanks for taking that time with her
