"Talking Mental Health Derbyshire was a waste of..."

About: Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

I was referred to talking mental health derbyshire by my gp after being put on meds & still struggling through everyday after suffering parental narcissistic abuse all my life. I had to wait about twelve weeks and was offired a type of counselling if you can call it that. The therapist was flummoxed with my case as it probably isn't something they deal with every day but the 12 sessions were absolutely pointless and a waste of time petrol and hope!. All the therapist did was sit in a chair while I was meant to be telling them how bad I'm feeling. Got no feedback at all or any response that was of use other than go there and pour my heart out. It's quite obvious after alot of research that I am suffering from complex PTSD as do most abuse victims so this was ridiculous and I'm still on the pills and suffering!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we are sorry that you feel that you have not received the service you would expect. We have made improvements to our assessment process to identify trauma and developed an enhanced trauma pathway.

In some cases clients with complex PTSD can benefit from a more gentle approach (like counselling) that does not increase symptoms beyond a level which is tolerable or safe and we would encourage you to contact us for a re-assessment. If you no longer feel that you would like treatment with us there are other providers in Derbyshire who may be able to help and they can be found on the Clinical Commissioning Group website at http://www.hardwickccg.nhs.uk/emotional-wellbeing/

Unfortunately without your details we are unable to look into individual cases. If you would like us to look into your concerns further please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01332 623751 or by e-mail to patientexperience@derbyshcft.nhs.uk
