"Sleepless nights"

About: Sandwell General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I have been to hospital through A& E for heart issues.I am not very happy the way nurses in A &E behaviour. I went to hospital around 12 .30 pm .They were trying to normalises my pulse .Nobody even bothered to ask for a drink or a sandwich.I have to ask them for a sandwich and tea then they brought me.There was a elderly patients who was panicking and was calling nurse every time and the nurse wasn't very much interested listening to the elderly person .I could see how they were ignoring his calls I have to remind them that fellow is calling them and I could see their reluctant behaviour. Felt very sorry for the elderly person.I have to stay overnight for monitoring and few more scans.Moat of the patients were senior citizens in my ward.As we were sleeping the ward the gang of nurses were having a party sort of seen They laughing giggling and we're not even concerned that there are heart patients who are trying to sleep. They were talking and laughing so loud .I couldn't sleep at all. This is 2 AM now and I am wide awake. They have no concern about other people's feelings. I am so disappointed how could somebody behave like that. Most of the senior citizens were sleeping but I couldn't get any sleep at all.Monitors kept beeping but nobody was concerned to go and check.I have to ask them up check and stop that no use because it was preventing me to go to sleep. As I went into hospital through my GP and obviously with very high pulse rate I needed some good rest in the night but all my efforts try to sleep went in vain.Thwy need to teach how to behave in the night while patients are trying to sleep.

Dear Neha, thank you for taking your time to post your comments. I am sorry to hear about your experience at our hospital, particularly at night-time where we have worked hard to implement a Quiet Protocol on our wards. This clearly did not happen during your stay so I will remind the A&E teams and our assessment units of the importance of respecting people’s needs for rest and quiet overnight. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Rachel Barlow, Chief Operating Officer.
