"I would recommend anyone that wants the help to go"

About: Six Degrees IAPT

(as a service user),

I fainted at work. I had a lot on my plate at home, moving, fixing the house up, paying bills, planning wedding etc. I was working nearly everyday, trying to get everything to a high standard, working 'til early in the morning and a lot of the time not having a break or enough to drink and becoming dehydrated. I would sometimes work 'til 4Am from 5Pm the previous day. And on a regular basis I'd start early or stay late even when I was feeling ill or was really up to staying.

Days off were usually separate as well and on regular occasions they proceeded a late shift, a day off, then an early start. Meaning that most of the day I was tired or asleep for most of it. I felt depressed, exhausted and alone. I felt overworked and underappreciated and no one would help. Work didn't care and I felt like they only did what they have done to help because they were worried about getting sued since I did lots of late shifts and worked nearly 40-60hr weeks and sometimes didn't get paid for it.

The services I used were the Medical staff at Poplars medical centre in Swinton and I had a battery of tests of tests done at various hospitals, just to make sure it wasn't something other than stress and exhaustion. I was having severe headache and migraines coupled with chest pains,

When I was sent to the Six Degrees social enterprise at Walkden Gateway. I was extremely anxious about my health and the complications it caused to my way of living.. The practitioner that I saw tried to help me through my problems and gave me advice as well as people to contact for help. I could of gone to group sessions, but I declined as reasonable as they sounded, I have anxiety about people and already felt too overwhelmed.

With new medications for anxiety and the practitioner and Dr's help, I feel better. I'm not exactly 100%, but I'm managing better. I'm not doing full time at work or nights at the moment, but I'm in no rush to get back to that. I keep a daily record of how I'm feeling and if I get symptoms, hopefully writing it down and talking to the practitioner about the things that caused me to get so ill, I'll be able to identify the problem and do what's necessary to not fall back into ill health. I would recommend anyone that wants the help to go and see.

I'm not saying it will solve everything or work for everyone, but I'm happy with what they did for me and would go back if I ever needed help again.
