"Hospital staff good. Paramedics not!"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

I was taken into hospital by paramedics that acted as if I was wasting their time. Told to sit on a stool in A&E while I waited for a cubicle. This would probably be okay but I was anemic, had low blood count and was suffering with extreme dizziness and vertigo. No help was given by the paramedics to help me with my walking, which was unsteady.

The A&E staff on the other end, were friendly, kind and caring. It turned out I wasn't wasting time and had to stay overnight and needed two units of blood and will need a hysterectomy.

I have the greatest respect for Musgrove Park and feel it is one of the best hospitals in the country. I have always been cared for and paramedics have always been caring and compassionate but these two, were abrupt and I felt like I was putting them out.

Dear anonymous

thank you so much for your lovely feedback about the A&E team, which I know they will be thrilled to hear. It is lovely to hear that you have such high regard for your local hospital. I am sorry that the paramedics that brought you in on this occasion did not get it right for you. paramedics are not employed directly by Musgrove Park, but the manager of A&E will be able to share your experience with the ambulance service So that they can learn and improve. If you would like this part of your experience of care looked into that could be arranged but we would need more detail from you in order to do do so.

I wish you a speedy recovery

Thank you for your feedback. I hope you recover well after your hysterectomy. I will pass you positive feedback to the ED team. Could you please contact our PALS team with your name, time and date of being brought to ED so that we can pass on to the ambulance crew your less positive feedback, as I'm sure they would like to know about your experience. It doesn't need to be a formal complaint but managers do need times and names to be able to look inot what happened.

Best wishes

Louise
