"Paramedic's attitude"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I needed to be taken to hospital in Fife due to becoming acutely unwell with sepsis however, I found the attitude and actions of one of the paramedics UN professional. I was in severe body pain and whilst in the ambulance one of the paramedics heavily placed their large bag of equipment on my legs which caused me to shout out in pain I asked them to remove it and they ignored my plea. They said I'm going to swap one pain for another as they took my blood sugar without taking their heavy bag of my legs.

They also made comments about one of my pre existing health conditions to their fellow colleague which was derogatory.

I felt they thought I was wasting their time until they realised I had sepsis.

I would have expected those in the caring profession to be more caring and less judgmental as not every service user are time wasters, furthermore what concerned me the most was how they seemed to find their actions some what amusing when I cried out in agony.

Dear Blue eyes

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion.

I was very sad to read about your experience when being treated by our Paramedics. We pride ourselves on our high standards of care and expect all of our staff to uphold the NHS values of care, compassion, dignity and respect. I am extremely sorry that this does not appear to have happened for you.

I would really like to look into this further and speak to the staff involved. To do this I would need some more information about the case. Please can you contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net

In the mean time I do hope that you are now recovering well.

Take care

Martin.
