"Excellent experience by medical teams"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

Collapsed at home and had to dial 999 for ambulance.

Holsworthy ambulance attended within 5 minutes and the crew were excellent.

Taken to North Devon Hospital.

The handover between paramedic and nursing team very efficient and given immediate treatment. All tests conducted quickly. Staff very caring although department very busy.

The doctors treated us as an individual and thoroughly explained what was happening.

The only criticism is that the A & E waiting room was strewn with litter and in urgent need of being cleared ( I realise that this mess had been left by the public )

Although the hospital site is meant to be a smoke free zone, people were allowed to freely stand outstand the pedestrian access door to A & E and freely smoke. Not pleasant for non smokers who had to use this entrance. For people waiting for a long time in a small waiting are this was not pleasant.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback with us when you unfortunately had to visit the Emergency Department at the North Devon District Hospital (NDDH). It is reassuring to know that the handover between the paramedic and nursing team was very efficient and you were treated immediately and informed about your care.

I would also like to thank you for bringing our attention to the litter in the waiting room and to the people who were smoking outside the pedestrian access door to the department. If you would like these concerns to be addressed, you can either contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) at the NDDH on telephone number 01271 314090 or e-mail at ndht.pals@nhs.net. However, I would like to reassure you that we log and monitor all negative comments received to identify trends and to improve patient care and experience, and your comments will be shared with the respective managers.

I have forwarded on your kind comments about your recent experience to the Manager of the Emergency Department where they will be gratefully appreciated and shared with the staff involved in your care.

Kind regards

Jayne
