"Inclusion Thurrock - Living for Life"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (IAPT)

(as a service user),

I had been forgetting what life was really about and living to work and not working to live.

I had a complete meltdown and accepted that I would need help.

After a short period on a waiting list for face to face therapy I was contacted by Inclusion Thurrock and attended my first session thinking that I was no longer in need of the therapy and that it would just be wasting everybody’s time.

How wrong could I have been?

My therapist Mr Shepard made me feel at ease and not at all rushed, in fact I went well over my allotted session time.

The following sessions allowed me to identify my core beliefs that were causing my deep anxiety and that these rules that I had been applying to my life could be changed, for the better.

The tools given were built within self management CBT and I can say that you can fix yourself if you use the tools provided.

I felt that I was up and down over the sessions, but each time I would identify another belief that I would be able change, making me stronger and more assertive each time.

I have just had my penultimate session and I am happy that I will be able to continue with the self CBT after my last session.

If anyone is giving up "Don't! " living life is a gift and you should enjoy each day on its own merit.

Response from Paul Bagot, Operational Lead, Inclusion

Dear Smiley Face

I am so pleased you got through, what can often be the hardest part of therapy, which is accepting that "maybe " I could benefit from some support and that "I am worth the effort!!".

Good for you!

It sounds to me like you have been persistent and worked quite hard with your therapist to gain insight and confidence in your ability to bring about changes in your life.

I love the sense of your reflecting on the fact that life can be up and down ( just like your sessions or what you bring to sessions!) so that resilience is one of the major tools you take with you from your treatment.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us at Inclusion Thurrock. I'm sure your experience will inspire others to begin that journey and find the suport they need to start, as you say, "living for life ".

We all wish you the very best.
