Went to my GP in Leeds after developing further complications with my ongoing condition. The first GP that I saw, which was a locum turned around to me and said "What do you want me to about it? " I said you're the doctor you tell me. At which point I got up and walked out of the surgery.
I rang 111 and was advised that I needed to see a doctor as soon as possible at their walk in centre. I turned up and was told my own GP should be referring me for an MRI scan and there was nothing they could do.
I rang my GP surgery when I got home and explained what had happened and they were apologetic and offered me an appointment with a different doctor on the Monday morning. I arrived in good time and was called in to see her. She told me that she was far too busy to deal with my problems and that I would have to book a second appointment for the following day. At which point I explained what had happened the previous Friday. This made no difference so I again walked out of the clinic.
The following day I received a letter from the GP's advising me, that after I left, they reviewed my case notes and symptoms and there was suggestion that I could have spinal chord compression and I should seek urgent medical advice or attend A&E.
The care I received from the surgery over the period of April 2016 to November 2016 in relation to my injury was shocking. The surgery at no point referred my for specialist care and thought they were the best people to deal with it.
8 months later I am on a cocktail of pain medication and walking with elbow crutches. And now playing a waiting game for specialist care!
