"The nursing care was faultless on G5 ward"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Paediatric surgery

(as a relative),

My 7 year old son was an emergency admission to The Royal Bolton Hospital for reduction of a fracture under general anaesthetic after fracturing two bones in his forearm and displacing them.

The explanations of procedures and nursing care was excellent. Staff made my son feel less anxious after showing him a book about going into theatre. This was done by a play specialist. Having been a nurse myself I can honestly say that the nursing care was faultless.

However, there were very few facilities for parents. Parents and visitors had to use the patients' toilets. there was a room for parents but this was off the ward. There was no beverage making facilities as there had been on other paediatric wards.

Finally, the ward was clean and tidy, plus the bathrooms were clean. This was a pleasant change as my son had been hospital a few years ago on another ward which was the total opposite with regards to cleanliness. I had refused to bath my son there as the bathroom was so dirty.

All in all, my son had a good experience in hospital. Many thanks to the staff on G5 ward.
