"I cannot find fault with any aspect of my care!"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I have just returned home after hip replacement surgery and want to express my gratitude to all the staff with whom I came into contact.

I was extremely nervous on admission but the anaesthesia team were wonderfully reassuring, explaining exactly what was going to happen and the recovery team were brilliant too.

I was first admitted to Compton Ward, where I was treated with care, dignity and respect and later transferred to Bramshott Ward.

The team on Bramshott Ward are outstanding, they are caring, considerate and compassionate.

I was in quite a lot of pain and I was given help immediately, the medication was always on time and, if I needed help at any time, they were there straight away - even though the ward was full, there was no waiting for my bell to be answered ever and always with a smile!

All the staff on the ward, from the senior nurses to the housekeeping staff worked together as a team, enjoying what they were doing and enjoying each other, this made for such a lovely atmosphere in which to recover.

I was fortunate to be in a single room, which was lovely and quiet and that gave me the opportunity to hear what the staff were talking about outside my room and at no point did I hear anything but positive supportive conversation and comments for each other and for patients.

I was also impressed at how important patients' mealtimes were treated by the nurses. I heard one HCA explains to a new HCA the reason for giving out the meals in a particular order that day. They explained that because they had a patient with a red tray in one of the shared rooms, indicating that they needed help with eating, that room was to be served last, so the patient needing help wouldn't sit watching everyone else eating and would get help at the same time. Such consideration and explained in such a fun way!

On the subject of food....... considerably better than I've seen here before, a wide range of choice. Lovely warm croissants at breakfast, Muller yoghurts, delicious home-made soups and fat tasty sandwiches in oaty bread

Always the choice of a really nice jacket potato and I actually had a really lovely mini quiche and roasted vegetables one night also highly recommend the meat loaf!

The Physio and OT staff that helped my recovery were reassuring, supportive and fun too and I can't thank them enough for their belief in me even when I could barely move.

Discharge was quick and simple and they had ordered my controlled medication the night before to speed this up, I can remember many times waiting for hours for my mother's to come up from the pharmacy - and my follow up appointment letter was with me the next day.

Thankfully, there has been a such a turnaround from when my mother was there some 11 years ago, I can only congratulate whoever has been responsible for it.

I would love to recommend one of the staff for a special award but they were all amazing!!!
