"No beds available for me"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU)

(as the patient),

During my treatment in A&E the doctor advised that I would need to stay in hospital overnight, my husband was to told, that I would be sent to the assesment centre, after my husband left the duty nurse informed me the bed manager said there is not beds so we will have to keep me here, to make me feel more comfortable the offered me a pillow. I was then taken to a nearby corridor across from the reception desk. The lights were then switched off. My blood pressure was taken twice in the dark conditions.

I felt very degraded and dissapointed by the total experience, I have paid into the system all my life, and hope I never go through the dreadfull experience again.

I look forward to your reply

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear A+E patient,

I was disappointed to hear that we were unable to get a bed for you and subsequently we were unable to make your overnight stay a comfortable one. I would like to apologise on behalf on NHS Ayrshire and Arran for your disappointment and discomfort. I suspect that the hospital must have been particularly busy but I can appreciate this will be of no comfort to you.

I know we can't change your experience, but perhaps we can learn from it. If you would be interested to talk to someone about your stay, please contact me on 01563 826222 or email me on Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

I hope you have recovered from the experience and on a health note, the cause of your stay.

kindest regards,

Eunice
