"Amazing Staff - Extremely Professional"

About: Orpington Hospital

I had an appointment in the coloscopy department today 26/07/17 at 14:45. I would just like to say the staff were absolutely fantastic. By far the best, most professional calming experience I have ever had in a NHS hospital.

Firstly my appointment was originally booked for 2 week from now but I am due to start a new job that week so rang to ask if I could change the appointment to sooner to avoid immediately having to ask for time off. The person I spoke to was so friendly and helpful and told me that they didn't have any appointments but I should call to see if any cancellations take place before then.

The next day I received a call from the same staff member telling me that they had two cancellations for the next day. I took one slot. I understand it is not normal procedure for the receptionist to call patients but I feel they went beyond their duties to assist me and I was very appreciative.

I arrived with my partner for the appointment and was greeted by a lovely staff member who very very welcoming and smiling, gave me a form to fill out and then we waited for the nurse.

The first nurse came out (and please excuse me I hope you will be able to tell by my appointment time the names of the two nurses because they were absolutely brilliant! Both nurses were friendly and kind and even made conversation with my partner (as you can imagine he was a little worried due to the nature of the appointment).

During the appointment one nurse held my hand as I'm sure they could tell I was a little nervous, they spoke to me throughout the entire appointment, without them I feel as though I may have felt pain, but it was completely painless which I am also grateful for.

Throughout my whole appointment the doctor (also cannot remember the name, hope you can find this out too) was very informative and told me everything they were doing to ensure I knew what was coming next. I was treated with complete respect and dignity throughout, nothing was too much and no question was too stupid.

I really hope there if some sort of employee recognition system at the hospital that rewards employees for excellent work, because although you may see it as a minor, normal, routine procedure the whole experience before I even left home (on the phone) was fantastic, I feel the people I mentioned are an example to the type of treatment that patients should be receiving. I say this because I have had to have a similar procedure before at a different hospital and it was the worst experience ever - complete oposit of today and I left in absolute pain.

So I hope this feedback and a thank you reaches the people I mentioned:

Two staff members for being friendly and helpful and genuinely happy.

The Doctor - For being completely professional and informative and answering all my questions and also being very calm and relaxing.

and the nurses especially! I hope you will be able to find out both their names using my details before.

Thank you

Winnie Olang

Thank you so much for your detailed comments about the colposcopy service at Orpington.

It is great to hear when we do things well in the NHS. We know that being treated with respect and dignity and being kept informed are so important to patients and it sounds like we did this for you.

Many thanks again.
