"Good treatment let down by discharge"

About: West Suffolk Hospital

My 107 year old mother was treated in CDU and G8 stroke ward after a fall. The treatment she received in both units was excellent and she was treated well by both doctors and nurses. This was however spoilt by her discharge experience. We were promised she would be well wrapped up in blankets and transported in a wheel chair accessible taxi due to her immobility. It took much persuasion for the hospital staff to agree that she could sit in the wheel chair in the taxi. Apparently they were afraid the wheelchair would not be returned. Eventually the taxi driver agreed to return it to the foyer but the blankets were not allowed to go with her ( again because they were hospital property and the staff were afraid they would be lost ) So a 107 year old lady was sent home cold in only her nightdress.Surely the taxi driver could have returned the blankets at the same time as the wheelchair. To make matters worse she was taken to Burwell rather than Soham because the taxi driver was given the wrong post code. Luckily my niece had travelled with her so was able to rectify the error. I find it disappointing that an initially good experience was ruined by the final discharge. I know the NHS has funding problems but surely the welfare of an elderly patient takes precedence over the unlikely loss of a blanket.
