"My Cardiac Arrest"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust NHS East Midlands Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Cardiology Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Cardiology

(as the patient),

In October 2016 I suffered a cardiac arrest.

As it happened, this occurred in my Doctor's waiting room. Musters Medical Practice on Wilford Lane in Nottingham. My heart stopped for 8 minutes. Thanks to the skill of the medics on duty that day and the swift arrival of the paramedics from The Nottingham Ambulance Service, who 'got me back' I am now still here to tell the tale. 8 minutes of CPR and a shock from the defribulator left me a bit battered and bruised, but still alive! The ambulance crew took me to ED at QMC where I was x-rayed for broken ribs, but felt disorientated and confused. The Doctor decided that having obviously had a heart attack I/ should be referred to Nottingham City Hospital. Why didn't I go there straight away?

From that point onwards, the care I received was nothing short of amazing All the staff at ACU Nottingham City Hospital were caring, compassionate, empathetic and supportive for me and my family. Matron Caroline Sheppard and her entire team including my nurses Lucy & Jessica went above and beyond what anyone could expect in caring for me in such a difficult time.

The cardiac rehab team were equally professional in giving me the confidence to get back to normal life.
