I recently had open heart surgery in the MRI cardiac unit to replace a defective mitral valve. The operation was very successful, but three days later I suffered an unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest. The medical staff in the Unit were amazing. Their immediate response to this incident undoubtedly saved my life. My deep appreciation goes to the cardiac and anaesthetist consultants, doctors nurses and support staff, who worked long and hard in difficult circumstances to resuscitate me and save my life. I cannot express my appreciation enough to all the staff involved, at every level, in this wonderful hospital. Nothing was too much trouble for them and each and every one worked in such a pleasant, helpful and caring way, keeping my family fully informed at every step of the way. Thankfully, due to their excellent skill, assiduity and care, I am now home and my health is continuing to improve. My thanks go to all in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Ward 3. My thanks also to the support given to me by the chaplaincy at the hospital.
