I chose this hospital as I have heard awful things about QA and I made the right choice, from the beginning of my pregnancy service was amazing, both scans took place here and I had an additional scan to check the baby wasn't breech. I also took the anti natal class here and it was really good and the midwife was lovely.
The birth:
After calling labour line I was advised to go to hospital, as soon as we arrived we were greeted with a lovely midwife who took me into the birthing suite to ask me some questions to establish how far along my labour was. Unfortunately labour line had not informed the hospital that I wanted a water birth but the midwife said it was fine and filled the pool for me. After a ridiculously quick birth in the pool we were allowed to stay in the birthing suite as there were no other people needing it. It had a sofa bed, hospital bed and arm chair which meant me and my husband could spend the next few hours together bonding with baby and recovering. We were due to be moved onto the ward in the morning but decided to go straight home and we were discharged after 5 hours.
The only downside is we were waiting around for A little while wondering what was happening with baby being weighed etc but it turns out they don't do it straight away these days. Baby was dressed by the midwife and we eye given leaflets on safe co sleeping and breastfeeding etc. baby was also strapped into the car seat safely by the midwife. They also made sure baby had breastfed before we left.
As far as births go it was a good experience (aside from the obvious pain of birth) the birthing suite was lovely and calm with a choice of lighting and music and a hell of a lot better than my last at St Mary's Mary rose unit in which I was basically left to fend for myself and didn't have a clue what I was doing.
I would definitely go back if I ever decided to have another baby which I definitely won't lol
