"the nursing care of my late father"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to Wigan infirmary with breathing difficulties/heart failure.

The first ward that he was on was Ince ward, the staff were lovely to him & very professional,

Dad loved having a joke and a chat to the nurses, they treated him with respect &a dignity.

Dad had a heart attack on the ward and had to be resuscitated, he was then moved to the Cardiology Department where the staff were absolutely wonderful especially three of the night staff.

The care & attention they gave him was excellent, they were very very professional & although it is their job they really took the time and effort to put dad at ease with them and also all of our family, they got to know us, nothing was too much trouble for them.

As my dads health deteriorated and we was told by the consultants that they could not help dad anymore and it was Palliative care, he was moved to a room on Pemberton ward.

Again dad got wonderful care, but also so did our family, we were stopping with dad round the clock and they brought drinks & sandwiches etc. I thanked one of the sisters & said they didn't need to and we would go to the canteen but she said " no we are here to look after you as well as your dad" which we was taken aback but so very grateful as it was a very upsetting & painful time for us.

Two of the staff from Cardiology Joanne & Nikki even took time out to go to my dads funeral, obviously we were very touched by this.

Just to finish our overall experience of Wigan hospital staff on those wards have been absolutely brilliant, although it's been very sad & painful to lose our lovely dad, we know that everything they could possibly do for him was done & they are a credit to the health service.
