The worse part of this whole procedure is the prep - drinking the Moviprep solution is yuck but needs done..........
Arriving at the hospital (1pm appt) - Queen Margaret in Dunfermline - I made my way to the reception. Almost instantly I was taken through by a very friendly nurse. She explained the procedure and also what pain relief was available. I opted for the sedation. She did the usual prep, blood pressure, temp etc and put in the cannula for the sedation. I was then shown into a changing area, told to get ready then wait in the little lounge area. After an hour I was called through. All my belongings were in a plastic bag which accompanied me through to the procedure room.
There was a doctor and 2 nurses. The doctor introduced himself and made a little polite chat while preparing the equipment etc. The nurse chatted too and it was all very relaxed. The doctor administered the sedative then the procedure began. I watched it all on the tv screen and felt absolutely no pain whatsoever. The sedation helped me relax, keep calm and made the whole procedure completely pain free. On completion I walked through to a recovery area and lay down. Another nurse, very pleasant and friendly introduced herself. She took my blood pressure etc. After about 5 minutes I got dressed and went through to the waiting area for a mug of tea and a sandwich. Feeling fine I left 5 minutes after that with my husband who had come to collect me.
The whole procedure from start to finish was completely fine and absolutely nothing to worry about, if you have the sedation it should also be pain free. Although I was advised to rest for 24 hours after the sedation I was absolutely fine and felt completely back to normal that evening.
The department at Queen Margaret Hospital is very clean and kept in immaculate condition. The staff were all lovely and friendly and it really made the whole procedure very relaxed.
