"The radio in the background makes it all so much more pleasant."

About: Innistaigh

(as the patient),

I have been attending appointments here( geriatric mental health) for a short while now and hear that the clinic will be taking away the radio from the waiting room. This will be a real shame as I know what a difference having the radio in the background can have on soothing people and calming them down. I find it comforting being able to listen to the music as it stops me from becoming wrapped up in my own gloom, I can start a conversation with other people if a particular song is good or, in my opinion, bad and talk to them about the music of our day.

I know people are worried enough when they come to these clinics, I know I am and others must be too. The radio in the background makes it all so much more pleasant.

I heard it was because of the cost that they were going to take the radio away,

Dear eglerx67,

I appreciate you taking time to let us know how you feel about this.

There are particular licencing laws that have resulted in us having to make the decision to restrict the use of radios and music players in certain areas within public buildings. However, I am pleased to let you know that we continue to provide the relevant licence for the waiting area in Innistaigh and other premises around the region, therefore the radio has now been reinstated in the waiting room.

With best wishes
