"Lack of infection control!"

About: Salford Royal / Accident and emergency

I went to have my bloods taken and when the health care assistant was cleaning the sight they used an alcohol wipe because it was wet they decided to blow on my arm to dry the area they were about to take bloods from. I work in the same environment and I know that your not allowed to do this under any circumstances before I could even say I would like you to clean it again they pierced me with the needle.

On the 27/06/2017 we were sat in a&e just outside of triage the nurse left the door open each time a patient was seen and I watched the nurse take their blood pressures and not even clean the cuff in between patients or the sats probe which is unacceptable! The nurse never even washed their hands or alcohol gel their hands in between seeing patients they just called the next one in the wait was quite long and and I witnessed this for about 1hr.

Once we were transferred to the A&E department I went to the toilet I noticed there was blood on the floor just a drop but still it needed to be cleaned I informed a member of staff as we were sat on the corridor due to the lack of beds they had I watched the staff walk over this drop of blood and not bother to clean it I wanted to grab a pair of gloves and do it myself. Then when I walked past again an hour later it appeared someone had stood in it as you could see the marks where they had walked.

The list goes on and on really but these are basic things that this hospital is lacking infection control measures are put in place to protect us from healthcare related infections such as MRSA, CPE, CDIFF and if they can't do the basic things I would hate to see the more important things. Venerable people such as children and the elderly could become seriously unwell when these measures are being met.

people aren't aware of what should be done in a hospital so just bare in mind that if you don't see them clean it ask them to clean it in front of you it might sound silly but you don't know what someone could come in with in A&E they don't have a medical background they don't know what's wrong with them. Just keep your wits about.
