Recently I dropped scalding coffee on my leg in the early morning. It soon swelled and blistered. I treated it myself by bursting the larger blisters (mistake). I expected it to get better by itself. By the afternoon the blisters had spread and the skin around them was very dark red. I went to A and E at Russells Hall.
There was an expected waiting time of an hour, but I was seen within 10 minutes and treated immediately. They told me exactly why I was seen so soon, and what they were doing and why. They also told me what I should have done. All vey professional and with good humour. They explained what I needed to do, and arranged an appointment for the dressing to be changed the following day.
The dressing was changed by the same nurse. She consulted with a doctor to check that everything was in order.
A further appointment was made a few days later. The dressing was removed, and the burns treated with a cream, and I was informed about what I needed to do. It was all carried out very gently. A consultant explained again the immediate and long-term effects.
The whole treatment I had a Russells Hall was excellent. Everything was done quickly and professionally, but with good humour. Despite the huge pressure on staff because of the number of patients, they gave me all the time I needed to understand what they were doing and why.
