"Disgusted, would never recommend"

About: London Independent Hospital

I was really disappointed with my stay at the BMI London Independent Hospital and regret choosing this hospital for my procedure.

I was told to arrive early morning and that I would be going into surgery a few hours later, but I was made to wait for hours before I was even seen to by a nurse to do the pre-op paperwork or inform me of the delay. Once the nurse finally arrived, they were extremely rude, unfriendly and at times judgmental and did not make me feel at ease or comfortable. This was my first surgery and I was in hospital without my family, only one of my close friends was with me at the time and the nurse did not help at all in making me feel less scared and worried. The porter that came to take me to the operating theatre rolled their eyes at the nurse as my friend gave me a hug before she left me. I thought this was incredibly rude and I was honestly quite horrified and disgusted at this sort of behaviour. It is no way to make patients feel calm and cared for. After my surgery, once returned to my room, the surgeon came to check on me for no more than 40 seconds, I barely had a chance to ask any questions about my follow up care. I was in for 1 night only and had several nurses come check in one me, each one ruder than the next.

The following day, during the discharge procedure; I was given a number of medicines to take home with me, which my insurance company covered the cost of, however, the hospital also took the payment out of my own bank account and I and my insurance company are still to this day (6 months later) hassling the hospital for the money back, as they took the payment twice.

I then had a post-op complication which I went into hospital for, fairly worried about and the doctor who saw me was also very rude and told me I should have gone to A & E instead. The doctor said they would carry out some tests "just to be sure" but that my symptoms had passed so there wasn't much point anyway. I could not believe the way the doctor was speaking to me. Furthermore, these tests were charged to my account and not the insurance company, as promised, and I had to claim this back from the insurance company, yet another hassle.

I would never recommend this hospital to anyone. Even my friends who came to visit me were appalled at the attitude of all the staff at the hospital that they encountered.
