"The practice in general"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

Recently needing a repeat prescription, I found that I could no longer phone it in, and had to do it online.

(it would have been useful to have had some advanced warning of this) as I'm not an online or computer user. the problem with this is it does not allow for early ordering within the very small time frame that they allow (1 or 2 days) for releasing repeat prescriptions or for any other medical reason that you may need it.

Now what took five minutes on the phone (once you eventually got through to them) now takes me about 2 hours to complete online, with having to borrow a computer from a friend, neighbour or family member.

The receptionist staff have a "matter of fact attitude" towards you when you phone for help with these matters, I feel the practice opening hours are dreadful,  leaving appointment times unmanageable with up to 4 weeks wait. I feel (some) of the doctors have a don't care demeanor with no time to discuss your ailments or worries.

What was once a great practice with very good doctors is now (in my opinion) the worst in town.

I'm a diabetic insulin user, have chest and breathing difficulties and have issues with my legs and walking therefore need to have good access to these amenities Which have effectively been withdrawn from me and I can imagine many more people in a similar situation.

This has left me feeling very angry, hurt, saddened and a burden when I do have to phone or visit the practice so much so that after 40 years of relatively good experiences I feel I may have to register with another practice within the town.

I understand that a lot of the problems are with NHS funding but it would help if the doctors and practices were willing to work hours to suit there ever changing profession. Like the rest of the hard working British work force.
