"Treated superbly by all staff"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all at NHS Grampian who I've dealt with this year. An accident at a kickboxing class back in January 2017 meant I needed surgery to repair my thumb. Surgery was only confirmed after an MRI and CT scan and the speed of this, once diagnosed, was very impressive.

Although this is clearly very minor when the NHS is dealing with major trauma all the time when it impacts upon your daily life it feels like a very big deal. I felt I was kept well informed about what needed to happen, when it would happen, and likely recovery. Everyone from the staff at both ARI and Woodend Fracture Clinics were superb, as was the skill of the surgeon and anaesthetists at time of operation. A special mention must go to the nurses who helped me come round from the general anaesthetic when I was talking nonsense!

At a time of great pressure on the NHS I felt I was treated superbly by all. What you do makes a difference, each and every day, and for that we should all be extremely grateful.

Thank you

Thank you so much for taking the time to post and provide your wonderful feedback. It is so good to hear your experience was good throughout the whole pathway of your care and that you were well communicated with about what was happening -and likely to happen.

Coming to hospital for treatment for any trauma is fortunately not part of most people's usual lives. We know that what might seem relatively "minor", as you say, is always a pretty major thing in someone's life. I am glad to hear that you felt this was appreciated by the people you came across involved in your care..

I know the teams will be delighted to hear the way they deliver care every day has had such a positive impact for you. I will share your post as soon as I complete this reply with all the teams.

From the name you've posted with "Kickboxing No More" - I take it you've decided to stop this sport. I hope you've managed to replace it with something you enjoy and that your injury is now well on the mend.

Thank you again
