"I felt like I was wasting their time"

About: IC24 NHS 111 / NHS 111 (Great Yarmouth and Waveney) James Paget University Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Had to call 111 today.

Seven weeks ago I cracked my ribs in a fall and with not long having a plate screw to my spine I thought better to be safe than sorry so called 101 instead of taking up doctors time, the doctor on the phone went through several questions and decide that I should give it a few weeks and if no better either call back or visit the doctors.

Seven weeks on the pain doesn't seem to be much better and I noticed a burning / stinging sensation so I called 111 back and after going through different questions the doctor said I should go to A&E within the next 4 hrs to get an Xray.

Not being a big hospital fan reluctantly I did what he said. After a 2 hr wait I got to see the nurse who asked what the problem was, as soon as I said I was told to come by 111 and that I had cracked ribs the first thing the nurse said without even asking what made the doctor tell me to come to A&E, was this is not a A&E problem and I should not have been told to come! !

The 111 doctor was great but the A&E nurse made me feel I was wasting their time! ! !

Wont bother again

I would like to look into this for you with our colleagues at the James Paget University Hospital so if you could email me - info@ic24.nhs.uk and mark it for the attention of Gilly- I will gladly investigate for you.

Please do let me know and once again thank you very much for contacting us here.

With best wishes,
