About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Plastic surgery

On the 23rd of May 2017 I was at the Plastic Surgery Outpatients Department with my husband who had an appointment at 2.30pm. When he was taken through to see the doctor I waited in the reception area. While waiting this man walked into the department with a phone pressed to his ear walked through the doors to the left of the reception desk came back out and then walked through the doors to the right of the desk. At no time did any member of staff ask himwhat he was doing. After about ten minutes he came back through with a young lady who he seemed to know. What concerns me is thst this man was allowed to wander around the department and not be challenged by anybody.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on NHS Choices about your husband’s recent visit to the Plastic Surgery Outpatient Department at the RVI and thank you for bringing your concerns about security to our attention.

Please be assured that we take the security within the department and hospital as a whole very seriously and staff are directed to challenge people entering the private areas of the clinics if they are not identified as staff. All Trust staff wear photo identification badges on a lanyard around their neck or as a badge secured to clothing – it may be that this identification was not visible to you at the time but staff were aware of who the individual was. In addition, staff use internal handheld telephones so this could account for the phone that you saw this person using.

As your review is posted anonymously it is difficult to look into this matter in more detail, however please be assured that we have raised your concerns with the management team in the Department concerned who have taken this matter very seriously and will remind staff of their duties in this regard.
