I am a patient of Portland Medical Practice. The GP I usually see is Dr McGuire.
I often hear in the media about complaints about the service from the NHS and I feel that I need to praise the NHS after my recent experience.
Just over 2 weeks ago I was prescribed antibiotics for an infected cyst on my back. I took the course of antibiotics and there was no improvement with the infection. It had got worse. I made an appointment at short notice and saw Dr McGuire at 12: 20. He indicated that the infection needed lanced and drained and he would phone the surgical team at Crosshouse Hospital to see what they could do for me and asked me to wait while he did so. After his call to the hospital he gave me a letter and told me to take it to Crosshouse hospital and attend ward 4a via the A&E entrance.
I arrived at A&E at 13: 50 and was triaged after only 15 minutes and taken up to ward 4a. There I was well attended by 3 nurses (I did not get their names) and by surgical registrar David. He examined me and gave me the options of treatment under local anaesthetic or by general anaesthetic and explained what he planed to do to treat me. I chose the treatment with a local anaesthetic and by just after 3pm I was on my way out of the hospital with the pain and distress from my infection greatly relieved.
This was a great experience of the service that NHS Ayrshire and Arran (Primary care and the Hospital Trust) can provide and I cannot praise all the clinicians involved enough. Very professional, rapid and great care.
Please give my feedback to all involved.
