I fell off a step, my ankle and foot immedietly swelled up, I could not put any weight on it, an ambulance was called and I was taken to hospital.
My foot was xrayed and I was told I had pulled a ligament despite the ambulance crew saying it looked broken. The doctor said I just needed a support bandage and to rest it for a few days then start walking on it, I was also advised to take paracetamol for the pain. After six weeks I was still in a lot of pain and my ankle was very swollen, I went to my G. P to ask for stronger pain killers. He looked up my xray and was not surprised that I was in a lot of pain as I had fractured my ankle and broken a bone, he was furious, he sent me straight to the hospital who could not apologise enough, I was told that someone should have contacted me after a consultant had looked at the x rays the day after I'd gone to A&E. I was given a boot to wear which was very uncomfortable then I was referred to the fracture clinic who then put it in a cast for two weeks. My ankle is still very swollen and painful and if it continues I must see my G. P for referral to an ankle clinic. The accident happened in early April (on my birthday) and it is still causing me grief. I am in my early seventies and still working which I am finding quite difficult because of this injury. I was walking on it for almost six weeks without knowing I had these injuries I believe that six weeks has made my ankle misshaped and swollen and still very painful.
