"A short admission but can't fault the ward"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Urology

I was taken to Harvey ward from Queens med A and E as they had drained my bladder with a catheter as I couldn't pass urine due to prostate problems. I was admitted and examined by a doctor who confirmed the problem put me on a drip for fluids and put me down for 2 hourly observations.

I was examined by a registrar later who confirmed the diagnosis and treatment then saw the consultant on ward rounds the following morning who confirmed that TURP was appropriate. As my condition had stabilised I was discharged with the catheter in place and given medication till the op can be done.

The only criticism is that it took the pharmacy 4 hours to get my discharge medicine to the ward which isn't under the control of the ward staff

Although I was only in for a short time I was very impressed with both the attitude and care of the staff who were all cheerful and very polite even the ancillary staff giving out the meals. I have to go back for the op hopefully in the near future and am happy to do so.

Thank you for getting in touch. I’m pleased to hear you were so happy with the care received on our ward – I will share this with the team.

I have shared your feedback with the pharmacy team, who have asked for more details so they can investigate and find out why you had to wait four hours for your discharge medication. If you are happy to do so, can you contact our patient experience team so they can take down some more details so this can be looked into? They are on 0115 924 9924 ext. 66623 or QMCPET@nuh.nhs.uk.

Thanks again for the feedback. We’ll see you soon when you return for your operation.

Best wishes,

Fay Allen.

Ward Manager, Harvey 2.
