Today 31/05/17 I had a surgical abortion at 9 weeks pregnant. My apt. was @ 1.30pm. I was seen @ 2pm. There were about 5/6 members of staff in the theatre room. I think the procedure took 20-25 mins but I can't be sure as I was sedated so can't remember much. After coming round I felt extremely nauseous and threw up. I was a bit woozy and was in a lot of pain(comparable to bad period pain), however this subsided after about 10/15 mins. I was offered cold water, a hot drink and biscuits. After 15 mins in recovery I was asked to go to the toilet to check on my bleeding and if I was able to urinate. My bleeding and clotting were minimal and I was able to urinate. I was escorted to the reception where you are free to go or wait to be picked up. I spent 1.5 hours in total @ the centre including waiting time, op, & recovery.
I would recommend pooing as well as urinating before the op as after the op the painkillers you are given are inserted rectally.
The first 2 hours after the op. I still felt quite sleepy so bare in mind after you wake yo you'll probably be quite drowsy. Also bare in mind if you opt for sedation like I did you will be asleep during the op, however you won't require breathing assistance unlike if you opt for general anaesthetic in which case you'll be giving a breathing mask and oxygen.
All in all I'd say my experience was as pleasant as can be expected considering the circumstances. I would recommend the centre to people in my situation.
