"Polite, friendly, and professional attitudes"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was due for an operation to remove a lymph node, and was assigned to Ward 105. Finding the ward was fairly easy as I looked at the online map of the hospital the night before, so I knew where to go on arrival. Staff at the entrance were polite and referred me to the waiting room which on the day was very busy with all seats eventually taken up. I was called through for assignment of my bed and this went smoothly with staff again polite and efficient.

After getting to my bed, a student nurse arrived and stayed with me for some time, explaining the way the hospital worked and what was to happen to me on the day, she asked lots of questions and helped me with my surgical stockings and gowns - a very nice girl with a good, caring attitude.

I was visited by the anaesthetist and the doctor and they were both polite and professional, explaining that my operation would be likely to be done late morning, which it was, and this all went smoothly and pain free, before I was returned to Ward 105 again, and promptly offered a sandwich and a coffee. Apart from the sandwich being 1 day out of date, staff were again very helpful and caring, and always there to help with glasses of water and answers to my questions. I was staying the night on the ward due to there being no-one to be with me at home for the night following my general anaesthetic, and I was duly moved to another bed in the next door bay (bed 5), and once again, I was offered a meal and coffee.

Apart from the ward being a bit hot as they day was the hottest of the year so far, and the staff found a fan to help us all keep a bit cooler, and provided iced water, I had no other complaints, and I was discharged  the following day.

I must thank all the staff on ward 105 for their polite, friendly and professional attitudes, and I had not one issue regarding them to make a complaint about.

Well done to all, I would not hesitate to want to stay on this ward if I needed to again!

Dear Steve

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I hope you are recovering well from your recent operation. I have shared your feedback with the team on Ward 105 who I know will really appreciate it. This is an extremely busy area and I know that the staff work hard to ensure that their patients feel well cared for during their time on the ward so it is great to hear that their efforts are worthwhile

Kind Regards

Angela Grocott
