"Been there before and had good ..."

What I liked

Been there before and had good service..

What could be improved

Can't we go to the hospital without being referred?

Anything else?

I have a problem with my wisdom tooth, and unfortunately cannot get an appointment until 8th July with my own dentist. I have been to Birmingham Dental Hospital 3 years ago to have my other wisdom tooth extracted, so I decided to contact Birmingham Dental Hospital and ask if I could come in this Friday to be examined and hopefully have my wisdom tooth extracted.

The telephone receptionist said there is a waiting list for tooth extractions, and that I had to be referred by my own dentist. So now I am left with a bothersome wisdom tooth, and have to wait until 8th July so that my dentist can then refer me to Birmingham Dental Hospital ....

Thank you for your feedback. The advice given to you by the receptionist indicating that a referral was required from your dentist was correct. If you feel that the wait to see your own dentist is unacceptable it is recommended that you talk to your dental practice to see if an earlier appointment is available.

If your dentist referred you to Birmingham Dental Hospital, this would be for an assessment in the first instance. The outcome of this assessment would be used to determine whether a wisdom tooth extraction was clinically appropriate. If this were the case, the clinician would then advise on the timescale for extraction.

I do hope this information is helpful.
