"Seeing services from a patient's point of view"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Working in the NHS it was strange to see the service from the patients viewpoint. My partner was taken to the ED department at t approximately 7pm and from being placed into cubicle 15 to her admission into ward 65 the staff were attentive, caring and professional.

ED can be a scary place for people, but the staff never left my partner alone for any period of time, explained what they were going to do and always had a smile. Al this while dealing with difficult patients. Unfortunately I cannot remember all the staff, but the Consultant Mr Ireland was really helpful in calming my partners fears and spent time with her in successfully inserting the IV cannula. The Staff are a credit to the service.

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear ECL

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read that your partner was so unwell that she had to be treated in our Emergency Department in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I am pleased to read about the level of care that she received, especially she was kept well informed about her care and the caring way that this was delivered.

I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the staff, especially Mr Ireland. They will all be delighted to receive your feedback.

Please pass on my regards to your partner.

Best wishes
Lisa
