"The most disgusting consultant I have ever seen"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

Yesterday I was taken down to ENT as an inpatient at BVH.

I have an auto immune diease but my lymph nodes had swelled to a good ball on one side then in the morning the opposite side has swelled down my neck and behind my ear, so badly that my jaw had felt locked because of how badly the glands has swelled.

I was wheeled down to the clinic and no one said hi. I was just left in a corridor and someone said "we have no doctor right now, they are in traffic so you will just have to wait". I was at this point falling asleep in my wheelchair after having no sleep the night before because of the pain.

I was left there about 25 mins and then I was wheeled into a room with 2 doctors, 2 student doctors in their own clothes and 3 nurses. I felt abit embarrassed as I didn't understand why so many people were in the room with me and this also wasn't explained/no one asked me if this was ok.

The consultant asked me what had happened and I sagged to explain and got my phone out to show the photos. The other doctor at this point was starting to put gel on my neck.

The consultant then very abruptly said "This is a cancer clinic, why are you here?" this naturally shocked me as I was told it was ENT. So I just replied "I'm not sure I was just brought here because of my neck and throat - it's really bad"

The consultant then didn't even look at my poorly area with the scan, stopped everything they were doing and said "This is a cancer clinic only" before I could even speak the consultant said they were passing me to maxio facial because it was my jaw. The consultant didn't try and listen whilst I was explaining it's not my jaw it's the swelling in my neck that's then affecting my jaw - at this point sobbing my heart out.

The consultant didn't listen to me and the nurse just wheeled me out and put me in a side room with the door closed for around 10 mins while the I waited for a porter. I am still sat in hospital with this problem, with no answers or help. The swelling of the throat happened again this morning and I do not feel this hospital cares about me. I would not recommend this hospital or ENT to anyone. I have never been made to feel so embarrassed, degraded or upset by someone who's supposed to be a professional in my whole entire life.

Thank you so much for leaving this feedback, you have highlighted so many areas for us to learn from as an organisation. I am sorry to hear you found the consultant unwelcoming and unhelpful in the appointment yesterday. This is not the standard we would expect, especially at a time when you needed support most and I apologise this was not given to you.
