I went to see a counsellor at six degrees today for a half hour session. The counselor was lovely and friendly and I felt very much at ease. She made me feel comfortable which allowed me to open up to her about things that I didn’t think I would be able to speak about and I felt that she really listened to me and everything I said. She decided that given my current circumstances it would be best not have another appointment with her because half an hour sessions aren’t enough and that she would instead refer me to a psychologist. I’m happy with the referral however she did explain that I will need to wait a further 3 months for this appointment. I said I’ve already waited 60 years so I don’t mind! I had to wait a while for this appointment today as well but I understand that in this day and age in the NHs it is necessary.
However I wasn’t going to go at all, because I did go to a 30 minute six degrees session a couple of years ago with a different counsellor who talked about their situation to me instead of the other way around which really put me off and made not want to go again, that’s why it took me two years to come back. But my experience today was much better and my counsellor explained that she was here to listen to me and that my experience from last time was important feedback.
