"Staff engaged in conversation with my son"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Allergy

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended clinic 5 at Lincoln County Hospital last Friday as my 7 year old boy required a blood test for a nut allergy. My son was extremely nervous as this was the first time he had needed blood to be taken. On entering the waiting room he was immediately distracted by the games suggested on the wall such as find the elephants etc.

When it was time to go through the the nurse and HCSW were friendly and welcoming and engaged in conversation with my son giving him their sole attention. He enjoyed the distraction technique of looking for meerkats in the book and before we knew it his blood was taken. He was quite surprised and literally skipped out of the room once he had taken his gift from the box feeling very proud of himself.

I know the staff do this day in and day out but their skills of making the child the centre of their care was second to none.

Thank you
