A friend of mine has been suffering for a long time due to mental health difficulties. She has been struggling frequently to get suitable, stable care. In this case she required a period in hospital. The psychiatric liason team that saw us were fantastic: Dr Pathy, Dr Ramji, and Social worker Jenny.
They were very sensitive to my friend's severe needs (which hospital staff have previously frequently found exasperating and frustrating) really showed and offered her the full level of professional care she could receive, going through it with us and taking steps to put it in place (chasing up free beds on a Saturday).
Their manner was extremely kind and they took every attempt to listen to her opinions, explanations and wishes for her future and care, as well as previous instances where this has not been done (in other visits, the quality of care has failed her unfortunately but I hope this will be improved on in future). The liason team helped challenge her low mood and gave us all more hope for the future. They took all her conditions and experiences seriously. They gave us a clear path to follow, with specific contacts to mental health professionals and explained how the procedures would work. We all really appreciated their help, and it was much needed and great to see them giving such commitment to their patient's well-being despite the severity of the difficulties.
"We all really appreciated their help"
