Well I was admitted to the day surgery unit for a gynaecology procedure, I was sent to ward 11 and had to search for a nurse to say I was due to be admitted, they took my name and sat me in a small waiting room full of other ladies waiting to be seen (this was at 12pm) and I didn't see a nurse to be admitted till 245! The nurse ran through some paper work then told me to go sit back in the waiting room, not long later a healthcare assistant came and got me to get change, they took me in a 6 bedded room and pulled the curtain round gave me a gown and left me too it, I'd only just covered myself and they opened the curtain and sent me to another room to see the anethatist (who was lovely) and answered any questions I had. I then got sent back to the waiting room and waited another 30minutes until I was taken to theatre, I still had my bag with me so I asked the HCA where I could put it. They locked it away for me, and it wasn't until I said should I have some stockings on that they got me some to put on, they gave them to me and I struggled to get them on, and I felt really rushed that I was holding theatre up (the person was lovely mind)! And I have to say I wouldn't have pushed the matter if I hadnt have know I needed to wear them!! .. now fast forward after my procedure, I get wheeled back on a trolley feeling a little groggy and straight away they ask if I want to eat and I obviously declined and just asked for water. An hour or so later I asked to get up, I went to the bathroom and passed a small amount of water, I felt really unsteady on my feet but that didn't seem to matter, the HCA took my needle out my hand and told me to get changed, then I got sent back to the waiting room. The nurse "looking after me" that I had only seen once then took me in a room to go through my discharge paper work, they looked at my dressings and barely went through my paper work properly, i told them I didn't feel too great but when they asked if I was ok to go I felt I had to say yes. I noticed they hadn't gave me a medication I asked for so I mentioned it and they looked really annoyed because they would have to do my paper work again so I told them to leave it. Then that was it I got collected and got home. Now I'm not complaining in the slightest I know how hard the staff work and they do well but to be honest I felt my whole process was rushed and they just wanted me out, I've had to ask nurses I work with about my after care because I don't feel like it was covered properly. So yes not really happy about it but I'm sure if the ward was properly staffed and they had more time things would have been covered a little better.
