"Rheumatology Department and Hip replacement."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / General surgery

Having been monitored within the department I have been very pleased with each visit normally waiting between 15 to 30 minutes which I find acceptable and the staff are always friendly caring and very efficient. A very good service overall including my appointments with consultants over a period of time. I have recently had a right hip replacement at the age of 54 years,15 weeks ago within the Hallamshire Hospital by the Doctor and team, I cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience waiting around 8-9 weeks very quick due to the hospital I think not having an A and E dept to hold up the waiting time like other hospitals? On the day of the operation arriving around 7.30 am and on a list with others was prepped and taken to anesthetics dept around 11.30am, this being my fist operation and stay in hospital other than having given birth once, the anesthetic team were brilliant, friendly caring and very approachable and also able to have a joke or two to help to relax, which I found a great help before moving swiftly into theatre, I took some music to listen to via my ipod whilst having surgery, although screened from any viewing the anesthetic team were close at hand constantly to monitor and reassurance if needed, although at this point I was very nervous for a generally calm philosophical person the operation swiftly passed by and to my surprise when they said all done! Felt no pain or discomfort during, taken to recovery room kept warm and a drink of tea which was the best ever, again all staff brilliant and moved onto ward F1 room 4 where I stayed for two days before going home, all the staff there from the cleaners up to the consultants and all in between were fantastic and nothing to much trouble with brilliant care and attention through out for all of us, with 4 beds to each room, where all rooms ran along a corridor. having gone home later in the day on day 3 for the first 7 to 10 days I felt a little unwell but managed to sleep well although due to still being on pain relief which worked very well, soon walking without crutches and please keep doing daily exercises. KEEP THE NHS
